The host club for this year’s AMO meet in Kingston, Ontario, had a great idea: Gather the convention attendees and invade a local cruise night. So Friday night, we all headed up to one of Kingston’s Canadian Tire locations, where the locals wondered just what the heck was going on. In turn, the state-side AMCers puzzled over some of the Canadian versions of popular cars. For instance, the Meteor above looked rather like a 1949-1950 Ford after a visit to the orthodontist.
For some reason, Ford pickup trucks north of the border received Mercury badging during the mid-1950s.
Another Meteor, this one appears to be a somewhat facelifted 1957 Ford.
And finally, the one-year only 1960 Frontenac, Ford’s attempt to sell a Falcon sibling under its own brand name in Canada. However, a propeller-like grille isn’t enough to warrant its own brand, and the Frontenac became a Comet in 1961.
